In Indonesia, the government has introduced and is strengthening the ISPO certification (Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil), a certification scheme that contains a set of mandatory government regulations regarding social, operational and environmental practices for Indonesian palm oil companies. The implementation of ISPO for palm oil smallholders is voluntary.
GAR/PT SMART suppliers recently attended the SMART SEED forum in Medan (the second workshop in the series organised by GAR/PT SMART) to learn more about ISPO certification from government officials, certification bodies and NGOs. And they shared their views about ISPO certification.
