Golden Agri-Resources (GAR) subsidiary, PT SMART Tbk (SMART) has been recognised for its sustainability efforts, winning three awards in two separate sustainable business awards nights.

SMART was awarded the Sustainable Business Awards (SBA) Indonesia by Global Initiatives for its achievements in the category of Land use/Biodiversity/Environment. This was presented by Sustainable Business Awards Indonesia in partnership with PwC Indonesia and KADIN (The Indonesian Chamber of Industry and Commerce) at Shangri La Hotel, Jakarta.

Meanwhile, Warta Ekonomi in consultation with Ministry of Environment and Forestry recognised SMART’s contributions in CSR and sustainability with the Social Business Innovation Award 2016 in a seperate award presentation that took place at Pullman Hotel, Jakarta. It also awarded the Green CEO Award to SMART President Director, Daud Dharsono.

Mr Dharsono said, “I”m honoured to have been chosen from amongst so many esteemed colleagues for this award. At SMART we believe that economic growth can go hand-in-hand with environmental protection and I’m proud of the work we are doing on the ground to protect the environment and to improve the lives of the local communities through our social programmes.”

SMART has long-standing commitments to forest conservation and community empowerment. It was the first palm oil grower to adopt a Forest Conservation Policy followed by a Social and Community Engagement Policy in 2011. These policies are now part of an updated sustainability policy called the GAR Social and Environmental Policy (GSEP), which is a continuation of the company’s journey to achieve sustainable palm oil production.
